STONY BAY AND THE COROMANDEL COASTAL WALKWAY...

Stony Bay and The Coromandel Coastal Walkway are in the Far North Coromandel, in fact, they are on the northenmost tip of Coromandel.  The Far North Coromandel is the furthest reaches of the Coromandel Peninsula.  It is considered the most rugged part of Coromandel in terms of geographical isolation, infrastructure, roads and whatnot.  This is where people go when they REALLY want to get away from it all, or not be found... We took a great day hike from north Stony Bay, following the coast.  This walking path is the only way to get from the end of the dirt road on the east side of the Fat North to the end of the dirt road on the west side.  There is not a drivable path that goes all the way around the north--if that gives you and idea of the isolation... It reminded me of Cape Reinga in that it seemed you had sound the end of the Earth.  Beautiful...
