CAPE REINGA....

It continued to rain so we took the opportunity to go straight north to Cape Reinga, the very tip of the North Island (not the Northern-most point...), which feels as though you have made it to the edge of the Earth.  Cape Reinga is the place in Maori culture where the dead leave the living and are believed to go back home to Hawaiiki, their ancestral homeplace which no longer exists, but would have been in the Eastern Pacific between NZ and Hawaii.  Cape Reinga is also where the Tasman Sea (west coast) and the Pacific Ocean (east coast) meet.  In one image I attempted to capture the clasing of the tides...  Chas, I thought you would like the lighthouse.  It is powered completely by solar cells!  It seems to fall off into abyss...
